Q. Who should consider residency at Parkview Pointe Senior Living?
A. Parkview Pointe was designed to accommodate a diverse group of seniors ages 55 and older. We offer independence, safety, and security along with the convenience of meals, upkeep, laundry service, and social activities plus a monthly basic health check. We are in essence a retirement living complex licensed to offer assisted living services. You can be as independent as you want to be and your health allows or we can offer you medication assistance and personal care as needed.
Q. I always thought I wanted to reside in my home as long as possible. Are there any advantages to moving to Parkview Pointe before I need help with personal care?
A. Absolutely! Some residents choose to move for convenience sake. They find themselves not wanting the upkeep and repairs of their home, not wanting to cook regularly, and not feeling safe and secure especially at night. There has never been the option of independent retirement living in Harper County up until now. Those who have left here to reside in other communities have repeatedly remarked, “ I am so glad I moved before I needed care. It has given me the opportunity to adjust to my new home and become familiar with my surroundings while I still had the independence and health to enjoy it. Now everyone here is like my extended family and we all look after each other. When I need more care it can happen right here in the comfort of my new home.”
Q. What is Assisted Living?
A. If someone is in reasonably good health and doesn’t require much assistance with everyday tasks, assisted living is a terrific option. At Parkview Pointe you will have a private apartment, complete with private bathroom and kitchenette, but you can rest easy with the knowledge that trained staff is on hand to help when necessary. Licensed and certified “resident assistants” will be available to provide daily living care such as bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, and eating.
Q. What’s the difference between assisted living and a nursing home?
A. Assisted living does not provide medical care, such as treatment for specific conditions or diseases. An assisted living assesses the resident to decide what kind of care his or her needs require and develops a personal care plan which is monitored by a licensed nurse. Twenty four hour nursing care is not provided. Nursing homes, on the other hand, are designed to house and assist individuals who have health conditions that require constant monitoring and the availability of medical personnel at all times.
Q. Do all residents at Parkview Pointe pay the same rate?
A. No, all residents will not pay the same rate. We have one and two bedroom apartments with different base rates billed monthly. The base rate covers Independent Living which includes 3 meals per day, utilities, weekly cleaning of the unit, and laundry of flat linens. Also included in this rate is the use of two lovely commons areas, a private dining room, spa, and safe room. Participation in a variety of social activities, exercises, and medication management are all part of the base rate. Personal care services and medication administration has an additional fee. The rate is determined by the Resident Assessment which is administered by an RN and can be adjusted as the resident’s needs change. Q. Who pays the fee for residing at Parkview Pointe?
A. Parkview Pointe is “private pay” as well as a licensed through the Advantage Waiver Program to allow Medicaid to provide financial assistance for those who qualify. Some people use long term care insurance but plans differ so it is important to check your policy to see what it covers. Veterans, spouses, and widows may qualify for Veterans Aid and Attendance Benefits to help with the cost.
Q. Are there any “buy-in” requirements or one time fees for Parkview Pointe?
A. While there is no buy-in requirement, Parkview Pointe does have an Assessment Fee of $500 per resident. There is also a one time $1000 Facility Fee due upon move-in.
