“In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins . . . not through strength but by perseverance.”
H. Jackson Brown
Perseverance would aptly describe how Parkview Pointe came to be. In 2002, a Harper County Turning Point Survey identified senior housing as a top priority of health concerns in the county. Seniors were leaving the area because there was no suitable housing that would allow them to maintain their independence while receiving assistance with daily needs. It became apparent that Harper County needed someplace for our valued citizens to age in place close to family and friends.
With the guidance of Dr. Kay Decker, Freedom West Community Development and Chair of the Department of Social & Community Services, NWOSU, the Harper County Development Authority was formed in November 2002. The purpose was to promote economic development and the establishment of senior resident housing in the county. Fund raising began and by the Spring of 2004, an eight and a half acre tract of land south of the Laverne City Park was identified and purchased as the site of a future Senior Living complex.
The HCDA Board has worked continually since that time to meet the needs of its seniors. After many rocks were subsequently placed in our stream of progress, in May of 2011, a $2.5 million Loan Agreement, backed by a 90% guarantee from USDA; was reached with Northstar Bank of Texas and Mackey Industries to build a 26 unit Assisted Living Facility. Harper County Development Authority will retain ownership of the complex and will operate it as a non-profit business. We realize that changes in housing and living arrangements significantly impact one’s life. We will strive to create an environment that becomes the center for healthy aging in our area.
Parkview Pointe Senior Living is the result of the dedication and financial support from many Harper County and area citizens. But most of all, Parkview Pointe is a reality due to a decade of perseverance. We believe that while we may be small in population, our senior residents, who comprise about 20% of our population, deserve the opportunity to reside in a safe and secure environment that honors their wants, needs and choices. Now one of those choices can be remaining “Close to Family and Friends.”
We look forward to and appreciate your continued support.
